Our Story

Caring for a loved one with acute medical or behavioral needs can be overwhelming. Adults experiencing dementia, mental illness, cognitive or developmental disabilities, or fragile health often require round-the-clock caregiving. At Genuine Hearts, we understand what this entails. Owners Abel and San Juanita have devoted their lives to caring for others. Their route to offering 24-hour residential care services started with a family emergency. Here’s their personal caregiving story.

Genuine Hearts Timeline

1990’s

Home Health Care

Abel and San Juanita were dating when Abel’s mother suffered a stroke. Instead of choosing a nursing home, the family, including Peter, Alamar, and Gloria, took time out of their busy schedules, and pulled together to care for their Mom and Dad at home. Although only a teenager at the time, Abel and the rest of the siblings quickly learned the nursing and caregiving skills to meet his mom’s complex health needs. Their parents passed well taken care of, and in a full circle type of situation, all the children are now employed at Genuine Hearts.

1999

AODA and Foster Care

Recognizing their gift for compassionate care, Abel and San Juanita began working with Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) clients. They also became foster parents. They welcomed children and teens into their home and their family, providing a loving and supportive environment for children with acute medical needs.

2005

Adult Family Care Homes

2005: Abel and San Juanita open an accredited Adult Family Care service in their home in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They provided supported living assistance to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities or complex health needs.

2017

Adult Family Care Agency

Genuine Hearts purchases an existing Adult Family Home agency in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Genuine Hearts took ownership of an eight-bed Community Based Residential Facility and several one- to four-bed Adult Family Homes in Brown County, Wisconsin.

Today

Better Health, Meaningful Lives

Genuine Hearts offers 24/7/365 in-home support at its CBRF and accredited Adult Family Homes in the Green Bay area. Residents receive personal care services and daily living support in a home setting. Genuine Hearts provides a homey, natural environment for adults with disabilities, dementia, mental health issues, or other acute needs.
